“The
Annual Conference of the Society for German Idealism and Romanticism"
Södertörn University – Stockholm – 11-12 June 2020
Call for
Papers:
The SGIR
welcomes papers on all aspects of aesthetics including conceptions of art, the
significances of the fine arts, the nature of beauty, and forms of the sublime.
Within the long eighteenth century, we are interested in everything from the
influence of early and mid-century theorists (e.g. Baumgarten, Moritz and
Winckelmann) on the Idealists and Romantics, to more central examinations of
Kant’s third Critique, Schelling and Hegel’s philosophy of art, and Hölderlin
and Goethe’s poetics. We also encourage papers that explore the interconnection
between aesthetic concepts and ethics, aesthetics and science, as well as
between art and philosophies of society.
Talk time
for submitted papers will be 30 minutes with 15 minutes for Q&A. As such,
submissions should be 4–5,000 words. SGIR membership is required prior to paper
submission. Membership is free (see homepage of the SGIR website).
Full paper
submission deadline: December 31st
Email submissions to: 2020sgir@gmail.com
The
double-blind review process will conclude by the end of February and decisions
will be announced February 28th. Graduate student submissions will be
considered for the annual SGIR Graduate Paper Award.
